Friday's Dose of Brilliance

With tonight’s debate drawing near (hopefully) I thought it would be good to have a couple related sites here today. Enjoy and happy voting!! Remember, there are only 39 days until the election.

**Remember, the last day
to register to vote in the 2008
general election is October 20th**

Kids Voting-I still remember doing this when I was a kid, and then I remember volunteering with it all through high school and college. I think it’s important that kids have an opportunity to learn about our current voting system (flaws and all) and actually look forward to the first time they can legitimately participate in the process.

League of Women Voters-It's still amazing to me that women have only been granted the right to vote since 1920. That being said, there are so many issues this year that directly affect women and families. Educate yourself and be sure that you exercise your right to vote in November!

Don't let this one get away

So I’ve never been shy about my pet peeves of elevator behavior before, but today was an all time low. Usually when I get to the office the elevators are pretty vacant. I mean, it’s 6:45ish so the building is pretty empty still. So, I get in and there is a guy who jumps in right before the doors close. He’s on his crackberry bluetooth and smiles at me. no big so far. I hear him say “yeah, I just don’t think I’m ready for the kind of relationship you are looking for” and “well, i just feel that tying myself down to one person right now would be unrealistic” then “I think I just really need to focus on getting that promotion next year”. I’m thinking omfg. This guy is seriously breaking up with someone on the phone…in an elevator…with an audience. Wow. At this point, he smiles at me, rolls his eyes and makes that mocking talking thing with his hand like he’s trying to say this girl won’t stop talking. it was at that moment that i grabbed my own phone and texted jeffrey that i love him:)

Friday's Dose of Brilliance

In light of my convo with erin today about how I do zero for the sake of the environment, I decided I’d make my Friday’s Dose of Brilliance about eco-friendly products. They are both great sites for baby and kid stuff.

Happy Green Baby-This site has some really cute clothes and décor items. I mean just look at this adorable tee with I’ll save the world one day. Very cute. Sorry though, I really, really can’t get behind the cloth diapering idea. I understand how horrible Connor’s Huggies are for the planet, but do YOU understand how many times a newborns diaper is changed daily!?

My Little Pakora
-Ok, this site has adorable stuff. When I was pregnant with Connor all the organic stuff was beige and so blah. Now, things have color and they are earth-friendly. What more could I ask for…oh, except the cute toddler tee I want to NOT be $22. I swear I think the most I’ve ever spent on a shirt for Connor is maybe $15. my poor deprived kiddo. :)

It's Coming...

In honor of the new season being just one week away...

43 days and counting...

Since I’m ridiculous and it’s September I’m starting to think about what to do this year for Connor’s Halloween costume. Last year he was Tigger and it was kill me now cute. I mean really cute. He was only 7 months old, but I really think he understood that Bouncing and Pouncing is what Tiggers do Best.

Anyway, I figure I’ve probably only got one, maybe two more Halloweens where I can dress him in whatever I want before he decides he wants to be a lame Transformer or Power Ranger or whatever is cool to kids. I don’t know. Clearly, I’m not cool to kids. Once we have kid #2 we can start going with the embarassing duo costumes. Ah, what a great reason to have another child.

So, this year I think he’s going as a garden gnome. Like the Travelocity variety. Little Red pants, Blue shirt, hat, etc. Maybe even a little beard if I can somehow work it so that he doesn’t strangle himself with it within the first 45 seconds. I find this hilarious. A few weeks ago we were playing in our yard and connor was obsessed with this little gnome that my dad gave us as a joke (because I hate them) and I thought, hmmm my kid is tiny and kinda looks like a garden gnome. Done and done.

So, i'm thinking kinda like this guy...

So, now I’m just hoping people will actually know what he is. I’m thinking props are the best way to accomplish this…thoughts? Ideas?

Decisions, decisions

Connor has school photos coming up Friday and I’m (as usual) totally and completely fixated on choosing the perfect outfit. Jeffrey thinks he should wear his green shirt where the elephant is playing baseball. I’m thinking something a bit more…I don’t know… I’m trying to resist the ever-present urge to dress him in head to toe argyle or something amazingly preppy but against my better judgment these are my top picks so far.

Of course, part of me wants to go with the political theme since it’s an election year…

Nearly Wordless Wednesday

This weeks photos are from some of Connor's recent adventures, starting with his visit to the dentist last week. Their office is so fun. You can see him playing with the big video game station and then hugging all over creepy ET guy. The last dentist pic is of him and the big toothbrush they gave him to play with-mistake. he then smacked it against everything in the room.

Here are some fun swimming pics of Connor with Jeffrey at swim lessons. Most weeks we are both in the pool with him, but I wanted to get some good pics so I sat this lesson out. The first couple pics are of Connor floating on his back. He hates this. Usually screams and flails around. This past week there was some kind of backfloat breakthrough and he now tolerates it. That’s all I can ask for! The last pic is of his “sit and wait”, where he learns to stay out of the water until mommy or daddy invites him in.
